No Roman for Me

So I am going to Coronation. It was sort of a last minute decision, since we thought we could not do it. Then, things changed so I could make it, and there I go.

I am really looking forward to it, and my only regret is that ballistabob won't be able to make it. I will be driving Friday afternoon with the greta_k, and meeting later on at the Holiday Inn Express with geoffreyapclwyd and pirategirleee, who cannot leave as early as the Greta and I.

And although I would have loved to wear Roman or Byzantine garb, there is simply no time for that. It is not that it would be difficult, it is that at the stage of the game I don't want to slap something together in a hurry that might or might not look good.

Plus, I am fighting rapier.

Therefore, the Belphoebe will show up in her 16th Century duds, although she would very much have liked to participate in the Roman extravaganza that looks and sounds so much fun.

I have to say, I do have a nifty linen chiton that I made for Pennsic, escoffion and all. However, it was made out of the lightest material and meant to serve as cool and breezy garb for the hot days of War, not for the chilly kind of day that has been forecasted for next Saturday. I will pack it up just in case, but I believe that I will remain in my 16th Century for the entirety of the day.

But I will be there, and it will be fun.

Hope to see you guys!

can you wear a linen tunic (or smock ;) ) under the chiton?
(honest question, does that work)?

I could, but I'd still freeze my pattot. They are calling for snow from Friday into Saturday morning. I am afraid that linen would not cut the mustard. Wool would be much better.

The other thing is that I need to do this properly. It would be a waste of time, fabric and money to end up with a rushed, poorly constructed tunic that I may not want to wear again. Sigh.

And remember: Do not try to rush miracles sonny. If you rush miracles, you end up with rotten miracles. "Miracle Max" :-D

Good point. (I was thinking you could cheat and use a linen chemise, but if it's going to be Cold! then that wouldn't work)

Yeah, you don't want a frozen Belphoebe. Or worse, a badly dressed Belphoebe.

Oh, the humanity!

Linen would work wonderfully here!!!! What is the cold you talk about? We are already into 103 on the heat index (92 degrees and 84% humidity).

I think that what we're lacking is the camels, but they ran away from the cold. :-D

Yes and not to mention it is going to be COLD. Gah I thought winter was over. It's ok though...you will be in good company I don't think any of the four of us is wearing Byzantine or Roman. :D

I'll be off by a few centuries, as I will be wearing my Norman gown.

so I was going to ask this at practice, but now there is no practice... do I get demerits for not showing up to support my baroness at coronation? Because while it sounds like a fun event, I am lazy and don't want to travel this weekend. It is very sad.

No problem. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to support your baroness. Enjoy your weekend! :-D

good-- I just feel like I've been out of the loop for a really long time. Except that was actually one event and two practices (the second of which was cancelled, and the first two I was sick for) so I'm probably totally delusional.

Have fun at the event. I may not be going, but I'll definitely want to hear all about it afterwards. :)

are you planning on playing pirates of the burning sea or can I steal your name for my french privateer? (and i'm hoping to use it in the beta anyway... so if it's awesome i'll tell you and you can steal your name back.)
Apr. 11th, 2007 01:25 am (UTC)
I feel very flattered, but I rather than you didn't. I feel weird about someone else using my name. Perhaps it is a matter of identity.

However, I can help you look for a cool name for a French privateer. ;-)
