I've Still Got It

Greetings from sunny Cd. Juarez!

Today, I proved to myself that I can still drive in my hometown.

Yay me!

And why am I so happy do you ask? Well, if you have ever complained about the drivers and traffic in our beloved DC Metro area, try driving in Mexico. Anywhere in Mexico. Bonus points if it is a large, bustling city, where red lights and stop signs are like the Pirate Code, mere guidelines.

Man, I've still got it.

Oh, and Germany beat Argentina today.

Life is good.

need info!
Hi. HOPE YOU'RE CONTINUING TO HAVE A GREAT TIME.
Maybe you have access to LJ and not email, because I haven't seen an answer yet...so I'm using this to try to ask (sorry!):
You didn't put an answer on the Alle Psallite poll for next Thursday. Can you practice on that day? At the moment it appears to have the least of "CANT practice" of any days (even if there aren't too many of "prefer"). But I'd really like you and Bob to be at one more practice!
Let me know. A.

Good to know
Well, it's nice to know that Turkish drivers aren't the only ones who view stop lights as guidlines. Do they also have the increadable ability to make a 2 lane high way 3-4 lanes? If they can, then they'd have Noooooo problems driving here. :)
Hope all is well with you and yours.

Re: Good to know
Yup. Lanes are sort of optional too. :-D

Hugs.

Bel -

Thanks for the kind words and advice in my LiveJournal. They helped. A lot.

Fencing, for me, is more than an activity that I enjoy - it's also a lifeline. It's intellectually stimulating, it's exercise, and it gets me out of the house.

BTW, I want to learn how to sew some fencing shirts - I cannot sew worth a damn, and I'd like to learn to make some garb for myself so I don't have to spend ridiculous amounts of money. I could trade some good chore time at Pennsic or something, during the second week (I'm a passable cook...), for some tutelage in the fine art of sewing so I can save money. I'm on a college student budget.

Also, recommendations about budget-but-good schlagers are good. I want a good and balanced sort of weapon but $200 is my cap on a schlager.

See you on Thursday.

Hi there! I will be happy to teach you how to put stuff together and fitting you a doublet. I have a good pattern for venetians too. Quite easy. (Oh, and no need to barter. Teaching is part of my job ;-)

You may want to start by downloading the pattern for the fencing shirt. We have it posted at the FFG webpage. Here is the link It is very user friendly, period, and all you need to do is reinforce the gussets to make it list legal. I'll show you how.

Linen is your best bet, the lightest weight possible, for these shirts. Fabrics Store.com is your cheapest option for this. 2 yards will make it.

As for the schlager, you may want to look into Tripplette (Zen Warrior). They make decent, sturdy schlagers. The best, of course, are made by Darkwood, but they are very expensive. Triplette on the other hand, make a pretty darn good first weapon at a decent price.

I will not be at practice on Thursday, as we will be having an extra Alle Psallite practice, before our performance on Sunday. But drop me a line if you have any questions :-)

Happy 4th of July!

Thank you so much. I need to learn how to sew.

In terms of teaching me how to sew the fencing shirt, what're good times for you this week/next week at all? Pennsic is in less than a month and I have four shirts to make, whoo :D

In terms of venetians, I don't think I need venetians - I can probably buy scrub pants or something very similarish from Wally-World.

Next week will probably be better for me. My advice is for you to start cutting them, and bring them over along with the leftover linen so I can show you how to reinforce the gussets. :-)

For the rest, the instructions are quite easy. I'll also show you the trick for the perfect gusste. In the meantime, if you want to, chargirlgenius is hosting an open sewing day at her place this Sunday. Believe me, she is worth a visit, and she is a very nice lady :-)
