DWTS -- We didn't see it coming...

Well, the couple leaving us this week is David Arquette and Kym Johnson.

And I can tell you, I didn't see it coming, although I did say yesterday that predicting who the departing couple would be was a tough call.

At any rate, although late for a recap, here are my thoughts on the current state of affairs in the Race for the Mirrorball:

  • Ricky Lake and Derek Hough: They really stepped it up a notch this week, and the choreography was classic Derek. Ricky did not look like a pumpkin, but portrayed Little Red Riding Hood to Derek's Big Bad Wolf. I am not sure that the whole thing was Halloween-Monster themed, but it was awesome. Derek is indeed the king of the Paso Doble. And he can make anyone look good. Heck, if he danced with a broom, he'd make it look like Ginger Rogers. Good job.

  • RJ Martinez and Karina Smirnoff: Karina looked spectacular in her Halloween costume. I could not take my eyes off her and her white whispy outfit. Best portrayal of a ghost - Halloween style - ever. The dance was not as good as their usual standard, but hey, dancing a tango to "Ghostbusters" is is a tall order. They got screwed with that choice of music, but they were more than safe. Can't wait to see their dance next week. And they're still my favorites to win.

  • Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus: They danced a jive to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." Her dancing was't that good, but then I'd like to see the pros dance anything to that song. Like JR and Karina, they got royally screwed. However, Tristan is a genius at choreography, and they were having so much fun with this that I liked it despite the lackluster performance on Nancy's part. I think this is why they survived the cut. People like to watch folks who are having fun and putting the effort on. I don't know how long she's going to last, but if you're wondering who's voting for Nancy Grace, you're looking at it.

  • Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: They continue with their Magical Mysery Tour. Really, they need to be put out of their mysery. I can't even remember what they danced to. It wasn't bad, but it was completely forgettable. And they can't hide the fact that they can't stand each other. I think that the only reason they were not eliminated or in the bottom two this week is because they got the bonus points by winning the team challenge as part of Derek's Team Tango. Maks, I love you. But you and Hope need to go home.

  • David Arquette and Kym Johnson: They danced to "Abracadabra" and they had a blast. I think that no one has had more fun with this thing than David Arquette. (I also think that he'd make a great Shaggy, don't you agree?) I didn't see their elimination coming. I also wonder if they would have been eliminated if they hadn't been in the losing team dance. This season has not been easy to predict. They rocked the dance floor all the same, and they made a great couple.

  • Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke: They tangoed to the "Addams Family" theme. And they did a good job. Then again, they did get a better choice of music than JR and Karina. But it was nicely done all the same. Unless people get tired to this whole Kardashian thing, he's probably going to be in the semi-finals.

  • Group Dances: Team Paso (Ricky and Derek, Hope and Maks and Rob and Cheryl), owned Team Tango (JR and Karina, David and Kym, and Nancy Grace and Tristan.) And two of the couples in the losing team ended up in the bottom two. Oh, well. There is always next week.

So, who do you think is going next? Will people vote Nancy Grace and Tristan off? Will they send Hope and Maks and their mysery away? Will people get tired of the Kardashian Klan shenanigans and ship Rob K back home? Or will there be *gasp* a surprise elimination of one of the two top favorites?

Don't miss the next episode of Dancing with the Stars!

And in the meantime, you can kill productivity on a Wednesday by voting on the bonus survey after the picture!

    See you next week!

Awesome David and Kym. My favorite pic.

ESPN Photos (not safe for most workplaces) may help explain Hope Solo's continued longevity on this show.

    Or not :)

I'm going to miss David. At least I can go watch this week's performance tonight.

They keep getting rid of the people I like watching and keeping Hope Solo and Nancy Grace, so I've voted for the person I most want to keep around being the next to go :)

Nor our JR! I want to see him win. And it's about time that Karina gets the trophy too! She's done a great job with JR.

Unless something drastically changes between now and the end of the season, I think that JR should win the mirrorball.

Actually, if they stick with the tradition of keeping the heroes on a week or two longer than their performances merit, JR should win next season, too :)

Totally! Hasn't this been a really weird season? Loving it, but unpredictable.

Ohh, I am very sorry that he left. He really grew on me, and he was having so much fun! I think that what did him in was the lower points for being in the losing team for the team dance. *Sniff*

Hope and Maks need to go. Period. I would rather see Nancy Grace dance (and I don't like her) because she is having fun than Hope who is hating it!

(and yes, Maks IS Sex on a Stick ;-)

maybe if she doesn't pose nude for anyone this week, she'll be voted off next week.

I saw where Tristan wanted to take that choreography, too bad he had to meet his partner half-way.

Maks and Hope should have had 2-step for that music.

I love Karina's outfit. That music was a beast, but she did a good job choreographing and dancing to it. I think this is the first week I felt JR wasn't quite matching his partner. He was still very good, just not quite as sparkling a performance as Karina's.

I think Rob's biggest challenge with the tango was not giggling. You could see him almost lose it a few times.

I thought David held back too much this week. I understand why he did, but I think he's more fun to watch when he's a hair's breadth from being a train wreck.

Derek and Ricki were just fine, but I'm starting to expect that from them, unless her injury gets worse.
