DWTS - Broadway Night!

Work is kicking my butt again, so this recap will be very brief:

Last night was Broadway Night, and it was awesome. I loves me some Broadway music, and apparently everyone else does to. So here goes.

  • Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke: Cha-Cha. It was okay. Not as charming and smooth as his previous dances. To make matters worse, Mama Kardashian showed up during the rehearsal clips, and gave Rob a stern talking on "Go kick butt!!!" I would like to tell Mama Kardashian that storming in there reminding the world that the poor kid is a Kardashian doesn't help. Most of us have been voting for him not because he's a Kardashian but in spite of it. Rob, I am worried about you tonight.

  • Nancy Grace and Tristan McManus: Foxtrot to "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from Spamalot. Perhaps because I am a Monty Python fan or because their choreography and outfits were so adorable, I really liked their performance. No, there wasn't much foxtrot in that dance, Nancy Grace has not become the next Nicole Scherzinger all of a sudden, and she's still got a cow's chance of winning the competition, but I think that she and Tristan have just bought themselves another week. I loved it.

  • David Arquette and Kym Johnson: Quickstep. It's good to see David working so enthusiastically on his routines. He really loves being there. Besides, he cracks me up. He sounds like a really laid back, funny stoner. His quickstep wasn't nearly as good as Derek or JR's, but then those two are the ones to beat. He did a good job anyway and, who doesn't like "Grease"? Plus his John Travolta impersonation was hysterical. I hope they stay.

  • Ricki Lake and Derek Hough: Quickstep to something from "Guys and Dolls." It was freaking awesome, even though Ricki looked like a gigantic halloween pumpkin. They still did a great job, and showed off Derek's genius choreography and showmanship. Really, really cool. They got two 10 and a 9.

  • Chaz and Lacey: Tango to a song from "Phantom of the Opera." It was great that Lacey called him on just coasting during this season and just relying on her just to get by, and it showed. The performance wasn't great, but then this is Chaz Bono we're talking about. However, it wasn't a trainwreck and it was a lot of fun watching him wear a mask and attempt to tango with a really awesome Lacey. The judges were very harsh with him. I think he deserved a little bit better than what they got, but I suspect that the judges are beginning to get concerned that he's not gone home yet. I predict that he's going to hang in there for at least another week, much to the judges chagrin.

  • Hope Solo and Maksie Poo: Rumba. Oh, Maksie. Please shut up. While I loved that you called the judges on the crappy and inconsistent judging they've showed this season, getting too argumentative doesn't always sits well with the public. On the other hand, I agree with you that they have scored people for "trying" while others get panned for no reason. That been said, this doesn't make Hope's dance a great one. And while I agree that this wasn't Hope's worst dance of the season, the girl looks miserable and I think she wants to go home. I am afraid that she will, and soon. Pity. She's an awesome athlete. Oh, well.

  • JR Martinez and Karina Smirnoff: Quickstep to something from "Chicago." Good gravy! Karina told JR that this would be the most challenging routine she'd choreographed for DWTS, and she wasn't kidding. It netted them 2 tens and a 9. Go War Hero!

Last but not least, I thoroughly enjoyed the group dance to "Money Makes the World Go Around," from "Cabaret." Carson came back as "artistic director," which was no end of fun. And it was funny to see Ricki worrying about not being a small girl and having to do a lift with Derek, while Nancy Grace just went on with hers like a trooper. Live and learn boys and girls. Live and learn.

At any rate, I leave you with a pic of Maks fighting with Len, courtesy of the good folks at ABC, as well as the Weekly Death Pool, as my contribution to killing productivity today.

    My job here is done.

    ~Belfebe out.

Now to go look up who won. I'm not caught up on results shows, but I did catch up on dance shows today. And while I could have watched tonight's results live, I decided I needed a set of shelves for my t-shirts more :)
