DWTS -- Movie Night!!!

Shiver me timbers, mateys! Dancing with the Stars was awesome last night! Chills, spills, and the gayest pirate ever!!! The theme was music from unforgettable movies and here is the recap to tell it all...

  • Ricki Lake and Derek Hough: Tango to the theme of "Psycho," which went to demonstrate once more that Derek is a genius choreographer and teacher. Dancing to music such as this, and a tango to boot, is no easy task. Yet, he and Ricky really brought it home. The choreography was masterful, yet creepy. And the special effects were effective while not taking anything away from the dancing. Regardless of whether they win or lose, this one will be a dance to remember and re-play for seasons to come. They earned the first two 10's of the season, and very well earned, if you ask me. And I don't even like Derek. But I am rooting for them and for JR and Karina. Finals featuring those two couples would be sensational!

  • J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff: Foxtrot to the theme of "The Pink Panther." They were absolutely awesome and loads of fun. They were also grossly underscored. True, I think that last night Derek and Ricky had the upper hand, but Carrie Ann objecting to the fact that their dance included humor was ridiculous. Hasn't she watched the movie? Luckily, Len smacked her down and he and Bruno gave them 9's. I still think that this is their season to lose. But now it's a two couple race as opposed to just one. This should be fun!

  • Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke: Little Rob Kardashian is growing on me. He was really cute as Clark Kent doing a paso doble to the theme of Superman. Given that he comes accross as a timid and sort of dorky kind of guy, this fit him to a T. He and Cheryl were sweet, and the dance was surprisingly good. Hopefully, he will hang on for a while.

  • Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: Dear Hope, you have now being taken off my list of surprise eliminations for tonight. This was the first time that I saw you embracing the whole cheesiness of DWTS and actually having fun. The results were fantastic. Yours and Maks' foxtrot to Toy Story's "You've Got a Friend in Me," was absolutely adorable and your hard work paid off. Keep up the good work! And let's hope that I am not wrong with my predictions for tonight! (Here's to hope, Hope.)

  • David Arquette and Kym Johnson: Paso doble to the theme of "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Progress! This was incredibly too much fun and, despite being a little stompy, David rocked the whole Indiana Jones gig, bullwhip and all. Kym is one of the best choreographers out there, and like Derek, a genius in showcasing her partners. Here's to you staying to dance another night!

  • Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer: Move over bitches! Cher is in the house! And so was the entire Bono family, including Mary Bono. What a family reunion! Plus Chaz danced significantly better than last week (which wasn't difficult, really). And hey, how can you go wrong with Richard Simmons for inspiration? Yes, boys and girls, Ms. Simmons did a cameo appearance during the training session and taught Chaz how to box in a ring(?!). It was awesome. At any rate, his paso doble to the theme of Rocky was not so bad, and he definitely looked in a lot less pain than last week. So okay, the man still can't dance and he's not in any danger of winning DWTS, but I don't think that he's going home tonight. You heard it here first.

  • Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus: Oh, Nancy. Your dance was not as bad as the judges said, but it wasn't as good as it could have been. You are still stiff and not that interesting. In other news, was that a hairy chest that I saw under Tristan's open shirt? I'm so used to these guys waxing themselves smooth that it threw me off for a second there. He's quite sexy, but waxing would increase his hotness factor. Just ask the Chmerkoski brothers... Just sayin'. EDIT: I forgot to mention that they did a paso to the theme of "Flash Gordon."

  • Chynna Phillips and Tony Dovolani: Tango to "Mission Impossible." Oh, Chynna, I crided for you. The good news is that Tony Dovolani was coolness personified when he descended from the ceiling a'la Tom Cruise, wearing those awesome laser shades. The bad news is, he landed. And from there on, everything went down. Really. Chynna totally forgot her routine, and she pretty much stood there. The judges, who are probably afraid that she'll go home tonight, overscored her and gave her three 7's. I am not sure that it will be enough to keep them safe. Chynna, you are my pick for "surprise elimination" tonight. That is, if the public doesn't send Nancy Grace home first. If there was a time for you to cross your fingers and toes, it is tonight. Stay tuned...

  • Carson Kressley and Anna Trebunskaya: Viennese Waltz to the theme of "The Curse of the Black Pearl." And Jack Sparrow was never the same again. Really. (And if you don't believe me, I am posting a picture below. Check it out!) Additionally, Carson provided the best sound bite of the night: "Pirates are basically guys running around in tight pants and open shirts, looking for jewelry. Um, I think I can handle that." The dancing was pretty awful, and the fact that they decided to have some swordfighting in the beginning, and that they dropped one of the blades on the dance floor didn't help. For anyone who has ever held a rapier, we all know that a blade on the ground is a tripping hazard, and this one was no exception. So yes, they provided the biggest trainwreck of the night, but also the most entertaining. I could not stop laughing. Carson and Anna, I love you and so do a lot of people. Even Len, after he panned your performance, said "... however, if I was sitting at home in front of the tv, I'd be phoning for you right now..." So yes, they are currently at the bottom of the leaderboard, but I don't thin they're going anywhere. Here's to hope.

Unfortunately, I'm going to go with Chyanna and Tony, because forgetting where you are in your routine at THIS stage of the competition is a bad, bad thing (although I wouldn't be surprised if Nancy & Tristan bit it, just because she's, well, BORING).

Boring is the capital sin of DWTS. Much worse than sucking.

The fact that I still haven't watched LAST week's episodes aren't keeping me from voting today :)

Tony's tool belt was so cute!

Len never saw the tight buttocks. *giggle* But I recognized it as a paso doble.

    aww...Hope's so cute!

"I want to look more masculine" while wearing pink wingtips :)

Derek, give up, you can't grow a beard. Nice dance, though.

    Want Lacey's costume!!!!! Nice ending.

Still loving JR &K. and Len and I agree on this one :)

I missed someone, maybe more than one? Oh, yeah, Nancy Grace is still boring. And how did I forget Carson? I love that man and the fake chin hair. Too bad about the tripping over the sword thing.

Maybe some day I'll be able to live-tweet DWTS. When's the last show of this season?

I don't know, but I can find out and let you know.

Not that I watch the show (I don't watch a whole lot of grown-up programming these days other than Top Gear), but it's been my experience that paso is somewhat stompy. (It was especially painful with heel spurs & plantar fasciitis.)

It is, and it was really funny when David told Len "You're telling me not to stomp in a paso???" Actually, what I meant by "stompy" is that some of the steps were a little bit stiff, but overall was a fun dance.
