Gretchen's Design on the Red Carpet

Proyect Runway's Gretchen Jones designed this red carpet gown for Aron Ralston's wife, Jessica Trusty. Aron is the author of "127 Hours."

Frankly, I didn't like her esthetic then and I don't think I like it now. The dress is rather shapeless, and the chest fits kind of weird. The shoes are nice though.

I am trying to be positive, but I would not be caught dead wearing that dress. I am looking forward to a decent design from Gretchen.

Here's to hope.

Let me rephrase - unflattering and ill-fitted... and from what I've seen - i.e. hideous! :)

I just can't find anything pretty about that dress. Sigh.

Unflattering is being generous.

The shoes are ok. With so much black, I would have gone for a bag with a pop of color.

Now to the dress. The fabric of the top and the bottom don't complement one another - they compete. The bodice isn't tailored AT ALL. Jessica Trusty is a lovely young woman, and this bodice makes her breasts sag like a middle aged woman. And WHAT is with the fabric on the sleeves? It's not the fact that it is different from the bodice and the skirt, but it isn't ironed will and doesn't seem to be fitted correctly into the armseye. Also, the shoulder seam in too long.

Now to the skirt. The hem is an interesting shape, but, again, the finishing in general shows that Gretchen Jones has no tailoring skills what so ever. The waistband lays incorrectly and doesn't look as if it has proper interfacing. While the placement of the pleats has promise, the length is uneven and odd.

There is just so much MORE than could have been done with this dress, but the designer dropped the ball. The sleeves could have been more interesting (sheer to contrast with the remainder of the dress, or petal shaped, etc.), the pleats in teh skirt could have been reflected back into the bottom of the bodice, etc. It's a sad, sad excuse for a Red Carpet dress :-/

But I will add that there are two things which save this outfit from total, unmitigated disaster: the smiles on the faces of Ms. Trusty and her husband. They seemed to have been having the time of their lives and enjoying one another, and that is what matters :-)

Hey, at least the client liked it, even if her boobs look quite unfortunate.

Yeah, I didn't notice the detail you did, but the fabric is disgusting and the cut is just amazingly unflattering.

Well said. Plus you made me almost fall off the sofa laughing.

Looks like all the horrible, ill-fitting stuff she made on the show.

I am not surprised so much as I am disappointed.

Yeah, you would have expected her to kick her craft up a notch at this stage of the game. Sigh.

THAT's a red carpet dress????

Yeah,right. Typically ugly Gretchen stuff.

Can you imagine what her informal stuff will look like? Ugh.
