They tell you "I am sorry Mama for not doing dishes while I was living here. Now I know what it's like when you are the one who ends up doing them all the time."

Time goes so fast ...

When I started in the dishwashing rotation at my house, I had to use the kitchen stool to reach the sink. I never had to apologize to my mom for not doing dishes. Or laundry, or ironing, or dusting...

That was excellent. Mine were good at doing laundry and cooking for themselves. Cleaning and doing dishes? I had to kick their butts every day to get them to do that. Nothing like moving on their own to figure it out ;-)

I'm with you. Laundry, vacuuming, dishes, general cleaning were all part of my 'chores'. And then when I was tall enough to reach the pedals of the lawnmower and shove the roto-tiller around, the yard maintenance and garden suddenly became my full responsibility, too.

It wasn't until I left home that my father spontaneously figured out how to set the table for dinner and how to fold his own laundry. ealdthryth and I more or less split the chores, but the yard maintenance is still all mine (pout), and she picks up the slack when I am working on a home repair or maintenance project instead of routine chores.
