Silver Screen-Dietrich Can't Have

A Tale of One Jacket

I have been shopping for a brown blazer for a while.

Make it a chocolate brown blazer.

And make the "a while" the better part of two years.

The elusive brown blazer must have some specific characteristics. To be precise, it must be:

a) A classic cut. Preferably short, tailored and just brushing over the hips.

b) Must have lapels (see classic cut above).

c) Chocolate brown.

d) Made out of either velvet, velveteen, corduroy or wool.

e) In a size 4.

f) Must be of good quality.

You would think that this is easy as pie, yes?

Well, no.

For two long years I have been scouring every single store, every mall, in several towns, and even in several countries.

Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

The Internet has not produced anything remotely useful either.

Whenever I find something promising either the price is wrong, the color is off, or they don't have my size.

I nearly found my blazer in Madrid. Nah, scratch that. I did find my blazer in Madrid. At El Corte Ingles, no less.

It was glorious.

It was my size.

It fit me like a glove.

It was 500 Euro.

It broke my heart.

I turned away

I loved that jacket, but I didn't love it 500 Euro worth. Although I did have a budget for it, and a much higher budget than I would have spent on any other piece, I can assure you that it was not 500 Euro, or anything close to that.

So back to the drawing board..Collapse )

After all, I have waited for the darned thing for 2 years. I think I can wait for 10 to 14 days more.

I guess that God does want me to have a brown jacket after all.

Jeebus, I hope it fits.
