Death-Neil Gaiman-Hmmm

Mind Boggling Question

Today's posting has been brought to you by the letter "B."

As many of you may have already noticed, I don't rant in LJ.

I am not going to start now.

So what follows is not a rant, but simply the pointing out of a mind-boggling question: Why is it that people will post to an Internet forum such as a Yahoo Group and not sign their names? Do they think that the rest of the world are mind readers? Or maybe they think that we are looking at them while they type and will recognize them by the clicking of the keyboard?

(If any of you can do the latter, please teach me the trick.)

At any rate, it is very disconcerting to read posts that don't carry a signature at all. You look at the addy you notice that this person has been dishing out wisdom for the past couple of weeks and yet you have no clue as who this masked poster is.

C'mon people. Sign your name. Many email programs even include an automatic signature feature that you can use so you don't even have to sign your pearls of wisdom yourself.

This is not about one person in particular. It seems that there are a number of folks that simply don't bother to type their names at the end of their message.

We, the readers, would like to know who you are. Maybe we can later meet you and say "Ohhhh, so you are Joe Shmoe! Nice meeting you!"

I promise that if we recognize you, we won't beat you up.

(Unless, of course, you are in armor, but that's a matter for another entry.)

And that's all. I feel better now.
