Death-Neil Gaiman

Slacker Days

Happy birthday weebaby!

I have been feeling like a slacker lately. After the neckbreaking days and nights of project Wilhelmina, I have been chilling and just enjoing the company of Carlos and ballistabob. It feels weird not to be working on a project, but I feel that I needed the break.

And speaking of breaks, this is the first time in about 5 years that we have four weeks in a row with no SCA events.

I must say, it is nice.

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love doing events. It's just that this year has gone at such neckbreaking speed in terms of life, family, and SCA events, that going for a month without SCA rush is a nice change.

And for the record, this was not a planned break. Life happened to us, but sometimes a cloud has a silver lining of sorts . . . and like I've always said: You know you are getting crispy at the edges when you're looking forward to doing laundry.

At any rate, thanks to this unintended break I have been able to clean the house which, after our Chalice projects, looked like something had exploded in there. I have also been reorganizing the sewing room, to the extent that I can actually work in there again. Now I need to go through my fabric stash and do a thorough cleaning. There is stuff in there that I don't really need, and that I am positive will never use.

So I have not been a total slacker.

As for projects, I have several that I need to complete, so far:

1. A silk farthingale that has been put together, but still needs to be corded and finished.

2. The infamous French doublet, which needs to be re-worked and corrected.

3. The skirt that goes with the above mentioned French doublet, which still needs to be plotted and cut.

3. A pair of venetians for ballistabob, which I put together in a hurry before Pennsic, but that really didn't work. Those need to be picked apart and fixed. (Which goes to show why you shouldn't do things like these in a hurry.)

4. My pink doublet, which I have handstitched and is almost done, but that still needs to have the tabs attached. (I didn't like the fit much, as I overfitted the chest, but it will be good as an emergency doublet.)

5. An embroidered gold scarf for Seamus. That is a fun little project that will not take that long, but I still need to draft the Spike, and I can't find the one I designed for Marcellus to save my life.

I reckon that should keep me entertained for a while. There are other things that I would like to do, such as a knitted Montmouth cap, a wool cassock, and a new doublet and breeches for Carlos, but those will have to wait till I am done with the other stuff.

But going back to events. November will be chock full of them. We have three scheduled in a row. However, after the nice slowing down, we are looking forward to them.
