Absentee Ballots

I vote, therefore I am.

Yes, boys and girls, taking into consideration that:

  • My flight to Florence departs at 5 p.m. on November 4th;

  • I should be at the airport at 3 p.m. at the latest (earlier if possible);

  • Everybody and their cousin are coming out of the woodwork to vote in that day; and

  • The likelyhood of long lines at the polls may or may not make me late for my flight,

    I decided to bite the bullet and join the throngs of people who are voting early.

    As greta_k and rheabecc had previously pointed out, the Commonwealth of Virginia allows you to do your absentee voting in person. Therefore, I showed up this morning at the appropriate place, ID in hand, and ready to rock and roll.

    I must say, the line was a bit long, but not terribly. However, the poll workers have this operation running smoother than a baby's bum, and the whole thing didn't take me more than 30 minutes.

    I feel so relieved!

    And now, back to the drawing board. A sandwich is calling my name and then it's back to work.

    The line (at the Balls Hill Rd center) this afternoon took about an hour to get through. But I had a book, so I had guilt-free reading time, and a couple of cute small children in line behind me.

    Yeah, Tuesday's going to be exciting... enjoy your flight! ;)

    Horray for voting early!!
    Oct. 28th, 2008 02:20 am (UTC)
    I am flying directly to Paris and arriving at Charles de Gaulle at 6:20 a.m. on the 5th. Then fly to Florence and arrive at 12:15 p.m. I already have an appointment at the Uffizzi at 3:00. (Jet lag, what jet lag?)

    What's your schedule?
    Oct. 28th, 2008 10:16 am (UTC)
    On Delta, Dayton to Atlanta, Atlanta to Paris (arrive at 7:55 am), Paris to Florence (arrive at 12:10 pm). Looks like we're flying different airlines.
    What's at the Uffizzi?
    And, hey, I heard that making your travel days full helps you adjust to the new time zone.
