We came back last night from land grab, and I am happy to report that set up went smoothly and efficiently. Having five pairs of hands doing the work is a big help and makes everything a lot more enjoyable and fast. ballistabob, akgnome, Chris (her better half), pirategirleee and myself, had everything pretty much set up by 3 p.m. yesterday.
The weather was extremely good, and there was a nice breeze for most of the time. We did get a freaky insta-storm Saturday afternoon, but it didn't last long. I took a couple of pictures of the weird sky after the storm but I have not uploaded it yet. I will probably be posting all of Pennsic's pics together after War Week.
Saturday evening, Camp Fallen From Grace was boarded by melaniesuzanne, penguininarmor and the fabulous Cassie. Much fun ensued and we are looking forward to round two during War Week.
When we got home, I found that the taffeta I had ordered from Ebay had arrived. I must confess, I was rather anxious about it. Yes, it looked great online but what if the darned thing looked like my grandmother's couch when it arrived? Supposedly the seller has a very good return policy but, since I have not used him before, I would rather not find out.
I needn't have worried. The fabric is actually much nicer in person than in the picture. I was expecting something lightweight and a bit stiff like any other taffeta, with the design looking more like a print than a weave. Instead, I got a medium weight fabric that looks more like damask than taffeta, but with the proper body and a subtle shine. Plus the pattern is not loud at all so my grandmother's couch will safely stay in, well, my grandmother's living room as opposed to on me.
(Taking into account that my grandmother died in 1968, that is a good thing.)
I love my fabric. Let's see if I can do it justice with the gown I have in mind . . .
Anywho, I am now industriously working on this darned report, which I want to have finished by Friday. And although I am making some very good progress, I am having a hard time not thinking that I'd rather be at Pennsic.
Man, I so want it to be Friday already!
