Pictures: Da Plum Dress and Da Coif

Okay, no time to post but here are some nifty pictures of the plum dress and the coif. Oh, and I am also wearing the apron with the drawnwork, and the proof-of-concept for the mantelline.

The hat though, I am not sure I like. I think that I look like a pencil top, but I decided to post it anyway. If nothing else, for the amusement factor.

I also think that the bun was too low in the back of my head and the coif looks a little bit weird. I'll do it a bit higher next time. It still looks nice though.

I like the hat. It's not a common modern look but it sure completes your outfit and makes you look cutting-edge fashionable for your time!

Thank you! I think I need to experiment with the look, but it does look like some of the woodcuts :-)

Absolutely gorgeous. I love the soft folds of your dress and the way your mantelline falls.

There's something about the hat... Should it come down on your head a little more? That's what looks off to me, but that could be my modern aesthetic talking since I know very little about late period headwear.

Thanks! The folds of the dress are a result of the cartridge pleating, and that it has enough fabric that it does that :-)

The hat and the coif, I still need to play with. I just plopped it on my head before heading off for Dun Carraig, and I wanted my picture taken. I am also wondering if the black one I have, which is a little bit larger and heavier, will look better with this getup.

Verry nice, as usual. I had the same feeling about the hat. It may be that I'm more used to seeing flat topped hats on women. Or it could be that the contrast in color just makes it seem non congruent with the rest of the outfit. But that would be appropriately period wouldn't it? Especially for middle class.

Thank you!

There is something about the hat. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe the bright color against the rest of the muted tones make it pop and look too tall. I bet the same hat in a different color would look perfect. Also, I think maybe further down on the head? What do I know? I always end up asking Isobel about these things.

Anyway, we're splitting hairs. The entire outfit is just fabulous!

Thank you! I also have a black one and I'll give it a try with that outfit. I just plopped that one in a hurry before leaving for the event. But I wanted a picture fast ;-)

Ohhh, I like the idea of the pipe! Must get one for a photo op!

Wow! Way cool! Now we need pictures of the dress without the cape! :)

The hat is cool - I think that it looks too tall to our modern eyes, but they wore some d*** tall and pointy hats back then. Oh, and we need more close-ups! :)

Thanks. I think that it is a matter of getting used to it. The more I look at it, the more it looks like a woodcut :-)

I will definitely be posting more closeups, and I need more pics of the dress without the cape. And I definitely need to update my page! Badly! :-)

I have a deep, abiding, desperate need to own a hat like that one. I love it.

Good ole Lucas de Heere. Gotta love him. Thank you for posting the link. I think I'm getting it right :x

I love it!

I think the hat is just a smidge too wide, and that's why it looks not quite right. Still, too cool that you have it at all.

Must go sew!

Go sew woman! :-D

I think that the hat looks great by itself, but it sits a little bit high over the coif. I have been looking at other images, and it looks like they did wear them high. I think I'll experiment a little bit more with it, or wear a larger hat. I have a black one that might do the trick.
