War of the Wings

The trip to War of the Wings was long, but it was a lot of fun.

Pile me, ballistabob, geoffreyapclwyd, and thanate in one truck, and you have the makings of a very entertaining roadtrip.

At one point we amused ourselves by counting patrol cars pulling cars over (27 total). It seems that someone was having a fundraising somewhere, as we only counted three on the way back.

Go figure.

This was the first time that I made WoW. I must say, I liked it better than some of the other big events. It was colorful, friendly, and self-contained. I had the chance to shoot siege (we won the siege point!), do rapier pickups, and chill around the A&S point.

It doesn't get much better than that.

Oh, and I got to take something like 120 pictures!

Opening ceremonies were absolutely stunning. In fact, I ended up running up and down the line snapping as many shots as I could, which goes to prove that you can't hand the Baroness a camera without her making a fool of herself.

But it was worth it.

(I have started uploading them to my online album, but I haven't finished yet. I'll be posting the link as soon as I'm done.)

So here it goes, the bests and worsts:

  • The ride to and from WoW.

  • Listening to the latest Brian Setzer's Orchestra CD, "Wolfgang's Night out" in the truck.

  • Spectacular opening ceremonies.

  • Stepping down as Guildmistress of A.S.S.W.H.I.P. (our Siege Guild), and handing the command to the awesome Master Wolfram.

  • Playing with siege engines.

  • Doing rapier pickups.

  • Alina's FS prize

  • Geeking merrily at the A&S point.

  • Getting a lot of nifty swag for my "I don't suck box."

  • Catching up with old friends (Phillip Bell, stanci, and duchessrachel come to mind).

  • Gorgeous weather.

  • Fried corn.

  • Horses.

  • The unbalanced number of fighters.

  • People using flashes at Court after sundown.

  • I can't think of anything else. Does that count as a worst?

There was also a marriage proposal at Court, which was pretty sweet. Sadly, it was so dark that we could not tell who was proposing to who. Hopefully, the groom to be was able to see who he was proposing to (she said yes, in case you were wondering). Otherwise, he would have probably woke up in the morning with a totally unexpected fiancee.

And that's all for now. I will be posting the link to the pictures once I have finished uploading them.
