The Best Weekend Ever

I've had the best weekend ever. I got to see Brian play his prize, got sparklies and other goodies from attack_laurel, and finished the work on the documents from work on time.

But the best part of my weekend was getting to have dinner with my eldest son and his lovely lady.

It was a real treat.

Needless to say, I am a happy Mom.

I have decided what my next costuming project is. I definitely need some warm clothes for the Fall, and this is the perfect time to begin. Taking into account that last year I froze my patootie several times at various events, working with wool sounds like a damned good idea.

I have decided to make a kirtle, with sleeves, with a loose coat to top. That should keep me toasty while looking good. Here is a picture of the fabric I have picked:

The eggplant wool is for the kirtle, while the grey is for the loose coat. The shot dupioni is for the facing in the coat.

I have already cut the bodice and started to sew the channels. Sadly, I think I am going to unpick it because I have realized that the channels are too wide. Better to undo it right now and not wait till it is a disaster.

And that's it. I'm going to bed.

Yeah. I love wool. Happily, I am not allergic unless we are talking about a scratchy sort of wool that goes directly on my skin.

I wonder how they did it in period. I be that there were people then that were also allergic to wool. What did they wear? Obviously, not everyone could afford silk. I imagine that it would have had to be linen. Layers and layers of linen if they wanted to keep warm without breaking out.

I love my kirtle and loose gown. The are very comfortable and wonderfully warm on chilly days. I know your's will be fabulous and the colors of your fabric are fantastic.

Re: Playing a prize...
The prize was that of free scholar, a rank in the Atlantian rapier guild called the Academie d'Espee. And he did get it :-)
